The natural science of skin care.

We have a long tradition of innovation, which began with the development of our unique rhythmic manufacturing process by Dr. Rudolf Hauschka. Today, we complement age-old knowledge with state-of-the-art technology. Our laboratories continue to conduct intensive basic research into active botanical ingredients, which we then use to develop new, effective formulations.

Our company founder Dr. Rudolf Hauschka liked to do things differently. He did not like that plant extracts often contained alcohol as a preservative, so he developed a process that instead uses the rhythms of nature and the power of natural polarities: the rhythmic alternation between light and darkness, warmth and cold, movement and rest.

Why are we constantly researching?

Because we draw lessons from all our research activities that enable us to progress. Our science department uses state-of-the-art analytical procedures and the latest laboratory technology to explore the previously untapped potential of medicinal plants from a medical and skin care perspective.

Old knowledge requires modern methods.

We develop effective formulations.

As manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, we know that every plant and every natural ingredient together with its specific properties plays a part in making the overall product composition harmonious and effective. Every product is based on its very own concept; we do not have standardised basic formulations. When developing new cosmetics, we take our time and work in large teams. We choose from over 1,000 raw materials for every formulation and fully align all the components to create a harmonious and effective overall composition.

Of course, we do not only analyse the ingredients, we also check the good tolerability and skin care effectiveness of the overall composition. The effectiveness of the Dr. Hauschka products is confirmed by independent institutes.

State-of-the-art technology meets manual processes.

We like to get our hands dirty wherever possible. This is how we ensure that only the highest quality ends up in our tubes. We sow the seeds for many of the plants we use ourselves in our medicinal herb garden – and also harvest them manually. For example, we use around seven tonnes of bright yellow calendula flowers every year, and we pick each one by hand.

Much of the production is also still done manually. Our Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner, for example, matures in large vats for 21 days and is stirred by hand every morning. The long maturation period and careful handling allow the valuable ingredients to optimally combine and create an effective overall composition.

Animal testing? Not with us.

Since the company was founded in 1967, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care has never performed or commissioned any animal testing for its products. We find dermatological tests with volunteers to be far more informative. All Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products are therefore on PETA’s list of ethical cosmetics.
